Tunisian Presidential Election: no exit surveys of polls

Tunisians voted Sunday in the first free presidential election in the history of their country, nearly four years after the revolution of January 2011. They were a little more than five million to be called to the polls.

The results must be announced no later than Wednesday.

The publication of exit polls of polls was banned.

Beji Caid Essebsi, 87, is the favorite. He is the leader of the anti-Islamist party Nidaa Tounès, winner of the parliamentary October 26.

Another favorite among the 27 candidates, incumbent President Moncef Marzouki.

Voltage sign in the day, the Marzouki's campaign team has accused supporters of Beji Caid Essebsi for wanting to attack the outgoing head of state.

Moncef Marzouki voted in mid-day in a nearby town of Sousse, 140 km south of Tunis. A small crowd of protesters was kept away by police.
